Are You Qualified To Have A Blog?

“Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12

Recently, I had someone ask me if I thought I knew enough to write a blog. He did not mean it as a challenge, he wasn’t trying to insult my intelligence, he simply wanted to know…. am I confident enough in my knowledge to present definitive statements to the world?

I told him yes.

Am I infallible? No. Am I wrong? Sometimes. But should that keep me from speaking?

Someone does not just become a master of their trade, they practice, they present, and they learn until they become the professor. It requires public declaration, for it is through public input that you learn. We are often blind to our own misbeliefs, the holes in our thinking camouflaged by ignorance and inexperience, and until we are brave enough to put our thoughts out there, those holes remain.

However, this does not mean that I am careless. Words are powerful. Wars have been wrought, lives have been saved, genius has been inspired by simple thoughts penned upon a page. No. I am careful with my words, backing them with research and personal pondering, so that if there is an error, at least I can say that it was not a lazy one.

I think a lot of people are afraid to risk. Afraid to start something because someone will draw attention to the fact that their credentials are not lofty enough to be valid. Guess what? It will happen. People will criticize you. People will challenge your qualifications. Your thoughts, ideas, and beliefs will be controversial to someone, possibly many someones.

Does that mean you shouldn’t speak?

Do  not let people look down on you because of your age, because of your experience, because of your qualifications, instead, set an example for them. Let yourself shine through your conduct and your genuine nature, and maybe one day you will inspire them to break out of the holes in their own thinking.

Do not let the fear of something perceived, keep you from acting for maybe your ideas are exactly what this world needs.
